The race for the semi finals in the T20 World Cup has entered a decisive stage, with concerns emerging for the first time that no Asian team may qualify for the final four. Recent match results have created a highly competitive scenario, leaving several teams in uncertain positions.
Following their defeat to South Africa, India’s qualification for the semi finals is no longer guaranteed. India still has to face Zimbabwe and West Indies in their remaining matches. Meanwhile, if West Indies manage to defeat South Africa, they could also strengthen their position in the semi final race, making the points table even more competitive.
Pakistan is facing a similar situation. The national side must secure a victory against Sri Lanka in their final match, while also keeping a close watch on other results to maintain their hopes of advancing to the semi finals.
New Zealand currently holds a net run rate of plus 3.050, while Pakistan’s net run rate stands at minus 0.461. Therefore, Pakistan must not only win their remaining match but also significantly improve their run rate. If New Zealand lose their final match against England, Pakistan’s chances of progressing to the next stage will remain alive.
Sri Lanka has been eliminated from the tournament after their defeat to New Zealand, while Afghanistan failed to qualify for the Super Eight stage. Bangladesh did not participate in the tournament as a mark of protest, further limiting Asian representation in the competition.
