Amid rising geopolitical tensions globally, the federal government is considering key proposals regarding the pricing mechanism of petroleum products. According to sources, the Ministry of Energy has prepared a detailed working paper and briefed the prime minister on the matter.
Sources say a proposal has been presented to revise petroleum product prices on a weekly basis instead of the current fortnightly adjustment system. This change would allow fuel prices to be adjusted more quickly in line with fluctuations in international markets.
Officials stated that the prime minister will make the final decision on the proposal after consultations with the government’s economic team. If the global situation remains serious, the federal government may soon announce a decision regarding the new pricing mechanism.
Meanwhile, the government has also tightened monitoring against the hoarding of petroleum products in order to prevent artificial shortages or price manipulation.
