The federal government has decided to maintain the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel and has issued an official notification in this regard.
According to the notification, the levy on petrol has been kept at 105.37 rupees per liter, while the levy on diesel remains at 55.24 rupees per liter. The Ministry of Energy stated that the government will provide a subsidy of 23 billion rupees to keep petrol and diesel prices unchanged.
Officials said the subsidy will be paid to oil marketing companies under price differential claims for the period from March 14 to March 20.
The ministry stated that the government will pay a subsidy of 49.63 rupees per liter on petrol and 75.05 rupees per liter on diesel. The payment of these claims will be processed through OGRA.
The government has also approved the establishment of the “Prime Minister’s Austerity Fund” for this purpose. The Economic Coordination Committee has approved the transfer of 27.10 billion rupees to the fund, out of which 23 billion rupees will be allocated to OGRA for the subsidy payments.
Meanwhile, the price of kerosene oil has increased by 39.20 rupees per liter. According to the notification issued by OGRA, the new price of kerosene has been set at 358.01 rupees per liter, compared to the previous price of 318.81 rupees per liter.
