A global report on air pollution has ranked Pakistan as the most polluted country in the world in 2025, highlighting the growing severity of environmental degradation in the country.
According to the annual global survey by Switzerland-based IQAir, only 13 countries worldwide meet the air quality standards set by the World Health Organization, while most countries continue to face dangerously high levels of pollution.
The report stated that the global air pollution situation is worsening, with a majority of countries failing to meet the recommended standards.
Data shows that in Pakistan, the level of particulate matter PM2.5 in 2025 was recorded at 13 times higher than the WHO’s recommended limit, posing serious risks to human health, particularly affecting the lungs and increasing disease prevalence.
