The robbery happened in the North Kent area, where 27-year-old Florian Berg was camping during his cycling tour through Pakistan. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Berg, the attack took place around midnight. He was targeted by two unknown assailants who approached his campsite, demanding money and searching his belongings. As Berg tried to run away, one of the attackers grabbed him by the throat, physically assaulted him, and forced him to hand over his valuables.
In response to the incident, Punjab Home Secretary Nurul Amin Mengal invited Berg for a meeting, assuring him that the police were actively working to nab the culprits. During this meeting, the Home Secretary presented Berg with a special financial assistance package of Rs 500,000. Expressing his gratitude, Berg described the robbery as an unfortunate incident but emphasized his positive experiences in Pakistan. He said that the landscape of Pakistan is beautiful and the people are incredibly hospitable. “This has always been my favorite country, and the hospitality of the people throughout my visit has been amazing. Despite this incident, I am happy to be here and will be back.
Berg acknowledged that negative experiences can happen anywhere and appreciated the support extended to him by both the public and the Punjab government. “The support I have received here is unforgettable,” he added. The Home Secretary reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of all foreign tourists in Pakistan. “The government treats all foreign tourists as honored guests and takes extensive measures to protect them,” Mengal said. “Police are using advanced technology to track robbers and making significant progress.”
