Minor relief is expected for the electricity consumers of Karachi, there is a possibility of a 27 paise reduction in the price of electricity for K Electric consumers.
Nepra will hear today on K Electric’s request for monthly fuel adjustment, in case of shortfall Karachi consumers will get relief of only 46 crores.
The request for a reduction by K Electric has been submitted for the October monthly fuel adjustment.
It may be noted that yesterday, the federal government increased electricity prices by 20 paise per unit for the entire country including Karachi.
According to the notification issued by Nepra, an increase of 20 paise per unit has been made for the first quarter adjustment of the current financial year.
According to the notification, the increase will be applied to electricity consumers across the country, including Karachi, and this will cause an additional burden of 1 billion 18 crore 70 lakh rupees on electricity consumers. Lifeline and prepaid electricity customers will not be charged.
Similarly, the quarterly adjustment will not apply to the consumption of excess electricity under the winter package.
According to Nepra, the last quarterly adjustment of the last fiscal year ended in November which was Rs 1.74 per PC unit.
