Republican leader Donald Trump will take the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States today in Washington, D.C. The historic ceremony, conducted under the US Constitution, will see Chief Justice John Roberts administering the presidential oath to Trump.
As per tradition, the ceremony will be held outside the Capitol Hill. However, due to cold weather and heightened security concerns, some activities may take place indoors. This event marks the start of a new presidential term and occurs every four years. Since January 20 fell on a Sunday this year, the oath-taking has been scheduled for today, Monday, in line with constitutional tradition.
The outgoing President Joe Biden, along with former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, will attend the ceremony accompanied by their spouses. However, former First Lady Michelle Obama will not be present.
From Pakistan, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has been specially invited to the ceremony. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, will also attend, along with Pakistani-American businessman Syed Javed Anwar, a key donor to Trump’s campaign.
Trump has announced major decisions for his first day in office, including initiating a large-scale deportation program, increasing oil drilling, and granting pardons to those involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. Following the oath-taking, a “Make America Great Again” victory rally will be held at Capital One Arena, where Trump will address his supporters. Additionally, the US administration will engage in critical meetings with the foreign ministers of Japan, India, and Australia to counter China’s growing influence.
This ceremony holds exceptional significance following the 2020 elections when Trump refused to attend Biden’s inauguration. This time, Biden’s presence adds to the event’s intrigue. Tight security measures have been implemented, with the National Guard, Secret Service, and drone surveillance ensuring a smooth event.
