In the U.S. capital, Washington, members of the Sikh community staged a strong protest on the occasion of India’s Independence Day, surrounding the Indian Embassy from all sides. Protesters were carrying Khalistan flags and continuously raising anti-India slogans.
A special event was being held inside the Indian Embassy to mark Independence Day when a large number of Sikh demonstrators suddenly gathered outside. They encircled the building while chanting slogans such as “Down with India” and “Modi the murderer.” The protesters also tore the Indian tricolor into pieces and threw it in front of the embassy, further escalating tensions.
The Indian diplomatic staff became alarmed and frightened by the intensity of the protest, prompting them to call the police. Law enforcement remained at the scene for several hours to control the situation and prevent any untoward incident.
On the occasion, Khalistan Council leader Dr. Sandhu addressed the crowd and announced that a Khalistan Referendum would be held in Washington the following day, where thousands of Sikhs were expected to cast their votes. He declared that the day was not far when Indian Punjab would achieve independence and emerge as a separate state of “Khalistan.”
