Barrister Gohar, Chairman of PTI, has stated that once the “iron man” is released from prison, the current judicial structure will no longer remain in place.
Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, Barrister Gohar said that if lawmakers create legislation but exempt themselves from it, then this effectively introduces an elite class above the law. He added that if corruption cases exist against Asif Zardari, he can appear before the court and clarify that the allegations are false.
He said that constitutional amendments in democratic systems are made through consensus, yet the government has abolished the office of the Chief Justice of Pakistan. He argued that in the future, Pakistan will have no Chief Justice to represent the country at international forums, as the position has now been replaced with the “Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.”
Barrister Gohar further remarked that the government has introduced the post of Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court and decided that the prime minister will appoint him, calling this amendment process entirely incorrect and dangerous for democracy. He added that the amendment was passed with the help of only two defected lawmakers, and such legislation cannot serve the public.
The PTI chairman said that the government’s fear-based mindset is shocking—so intense that even opening a door or meeting someone becomes difficult, fearing that a message might appear. According to him, once the “iron man” is released, these current courts will be abolished.
