In Rawalpindi, the long-running and high-profile military trial against former DG ISI Lieutenant General (Retired) Faiz Hameed has concluded, with the Field General Court Martial sentencing him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty on all charges. The case is regarded as one of the most significant military legal proceedings in recent years.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the trial was conducted under the Pakistan Army Act and continued for nearly 15 months, during which multiple detailed hearings were held. Both prosecution and defence teams presented extensive arguments, and the court examined every aspect of the evidence before reaching its final verdict. The sentence will take effect from December 11, 2025.

ISPR stated that the former lieutenant general faced four major charges: interference in political activities, violation of the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority and government resources, and causing unlawful harm to individuals. After a comprehensive legal process, the court determined that the accused was guilty on all counts.

The military’s media wing emphasized that the proceedings were conducted strictly in accordance with legal and constitutional requirements. The accused was allowed to appoint a defence team of his choice and was granted full access to all legal rights available under military and constitutional law.

Authorities added that all military and legal steps required after the verdict will now be implemented, marking the conclusion of a case closely watched both nationally and internationally.

Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed had taken early retirement on November 29, 2022, and was later taken into custody on August 12, 2024, following the Supreme Court–ordered inquiry into the Top City case.

The retired general previously held some of the most sensitive positions in Pakistan’s security structure, serving as DG ISI and later as Corps Commander Peshawar, where he played a central role in national security and counterterrorism operations.
