Islamabad: In order to address the difficulties faced by citizens in fingerprint verification, NADRA has introduced a major new facility that allows biometric verification through facial recognition.
According to a private TV report, the new service will enable elderly citizens and individuals suffering from medical conditions that affect fingerprint verification to easily obtain biometric verification certificates, significantly easing the process for thousands of people.
A NADRA spokesperson said that several measures have been taken on the directives of the prime minister and the interior minister, including amendments to national identity card laws, through which the definition of biometric verification has been expanded to incorporate modern technological solutions.
The spokesperson added that facial recognition-based biometric verification has also been made available on the Pak-Identity mobile application, while from January 20, the facility will be formally launched at all NADRA centers, where citizens will be able to obtain verification certificates by paying a nominal fee.
According to NADRA, if a citizen’s fingerprints cannot be verified, they will be referred to the nearest NADRA registration center, where facial recognition will be carried out and a biometric verification certificate will be issued upon completion of the process.
The certificate will contain the citizen’s photograph, CNIC number, name, parentage, a unique tracking ID, and a QR code, and it will remain valid for seven days from the date of issuance.
The spokesperson further stated that NADRA is fully prepared to implement the system and has issued necessary instructions to relevant public and private institutions to ensure smooth implementation.
It was also clarified that after January 20, citizens facing any issues related to the facility will be able to lodge complaints with the relevant authorities. Following the launch of the digital ID, this service will also be permanently available on the Pak-Identity mobile app, making biometric verification faster and more convenient.
