Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has thanked US President Donald Trump for temporarily suspending the American initiative “Project Freedom,” which was related to assistance for maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, calling it an important step toward reducing tensions in the region.
In a statement shared on social media, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the US President demonstrated timely and courageous leadership by deciding to halt the project, which could help ease the current regional tensions.
According to the Prime Minister, the decision was reportedly made following requests from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and other friendly countries, while a reference was also made to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, highlighting the importance of ongoing diplomatic engagement.
Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan will continue to support all efforts aimed at promoting peaceful resolution of conflicts through diplomacy, dialogue, and restraint, as these remain the most effective ways to ensure long-term peace and stability in the region.
He further said that the recent development could also contribute positively toward lasting peace in the Middle East, improved regional relations, and stability in global trade activities.
