Punjab is now on high alert as heavy monsoon rains continue across the province. To prepare for any emergency, Caretaker Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq held a meeting with the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The focus was on ensuring fast action and public safety.
Monsoon Rainfall Raises Concerns Across Punjab
The Meteorological Department predicts strong rainfall in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Sialkot over the coming days. As a result, the government has launched urgent safety measures.
To handle potential emergencies, PDMA has activated rescue teams. Supplies such as boats, life jackets, and emergency kits have already been sent to high-risk areas.
Flooding and Landslides Are Possible
Due to continued rain, several low-lying areas may face urban flooding. In addition, hilly regions could experience landslides.
Khawaja Salman Rafiq urged local authorities to take quick action. He asked them to clear drainage systems, monitor flood zones, and update control rooms regularly.
“Every department must act fast. People’s lives and safety come first,” he said.
Hospitals and Rescue Teams Are Prepared
Meanwhile, health departments are also ready. All hospitals have been instructed to stay alert and fully staffed. Medical teams, ambulances, and mobile health camps are already in place.
This step will help communities get medical help immediately if the situation worsens.
