Heavy fog continues to disrupt daily life across several districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, severely affecting road traffic and routine activities. The visibility level in multiple areas has dropped to dangerously low levels, forcing motorway authorities to shut down several major sections for public safety.
According to the Motorway Police, Motorway M-2 has been closed from Lahore to Kot Sarwar, M-3 from Rajana to Darkhana, M-4 from Faisalabad to Multan, and M-5 from Multan’s Sher Shah Interchange to Zahir Pir.
Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Motorway M-1 remains completely closed from Peshawar to Rashakai, causing serious inconvenience to commuters and long-distance travelers.
Meanwhile, central Punjab continues to face hazardous air quality conditions. According to an international environmental monitoring website, the particulate matter levels recorded at 9 AM on Thursday reached extremely dangerous readings. Faisalabad topped the list with a staggering 814, followed by 404 in Gujranwala, 261 in Multan, and 218 in Lahore, indicating a severe combination of fog and smog.
Environmental experts warn that the fusion of dense fog and smog has negatively impacted both the transportation sector and public health. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, wear protective masks, keep headlights on low beam during fog, and follow essential safety measures.
The Meteorological Department predicts that dense fog may continue over the next few days and has urged the public to remain cautious.
