Following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, funeral prayers in absentia were held in various cities across Pakistan, while protest demonstrations were also organized amid rising tensions. Religious and student organizations arranged prayer gatherings and paid tribute to the late leader.
In Lahore, Islami Jamiat Talaba organized a funeral prayer in absentia at Science College, where a large number of citizens and students participated. Special prayers were offered for the forgiveness of martyrs and for Iran’s success in the ongoing conflict.
College Nazim Abdullah bin Abbas addressed the gathering and described Khamenei’s death as a great tragedy and a moment of grief for the entire Muslim Ummah. Information Secretary Saifullah Farooq Chaudhry and Science College Nazim Shamas Ashraf also expressed their condolences. Islami Jamiat Talaba Lahore announced that similar gatherings would be held in educational institutions across the city.
Meanwhile, in Peshawar, Jamaat e Islami organized a special funeral prayer in absentia attended by Ameer Jamaat e Islami Central Districts Inayatullah Khan, along with provincial and local leaders and workers. After the prayer, a protest rally was taken out from Markaz e Islami Chamkani, passing through various roads. Participants carried black flags and raised slogans against Israel and the United States while condemning the recent attacks on Iran.
It is noteworthy that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had served as Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989 and was killed in an American and Israeli attack. The Iranian government has announced seven days of public holiday and forty days of mourning. Iran has also declared that it will avenge his death and initiate a new wave of attacks against Israeli and American targets.
