The Islamabad High Court has issued a strong directive during the hearing of a case regarding tree cutting in the federal capital, warning that any further cutting of trees within Islamabad will be treated as contempt of court and action will be taken against those responsible.
During the hearing, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro remarked in dialogue with the CDA’s counsel that the court had not issued punishments in contempt cases over the past one and a half years, but expressed concern over the current situation and warned that any CDA officer found involved in cutting trees would face contempt proceedings.
The court also directed that a qualified environmental expert be presented at the next hearing to provide detailed input on the impact of tree cutting and possible solutions, while instructing CDA to present its arguments with full preparation so that the case can be decided.
Justice Soomro further remarked that they live in this city and want it to remain beautiful, referring to the contrast between Karachi in the past and present as an example of how urban environments can deteriorate over time.
